About the School

For many years the city of Zamość took action so as to come back to the roots connected with the best academic traditions such as activity of the Zamość Academy in the years 1594-1784. Persistence and consequence of the people involved in realizing this aim led to formation of the State Higher School of Vocational Education (PWSZ) in Zamość.

PWSZ in Zamość was created by virtue of the decree of the cabinet from 7th June 2005 and is the only school of this kind in the region. In accordance with the decision of the ministry, PWSZ in Zamość runs didactic classes on the higher/advanced level of the first stage of vocational/licentiate and engineering studies as well as postgraduate studies.

The school adapted the institutional structure made up from: Humanistic Institute and Nature/Scientific-Mathematical Institute as well as the Institute of Mathematics and Innovative Technologies. In 2007 the School bought from the city a building which was destined for the dormitory.In October 2008 there was an opening ceremony of the Center of Supporting Initiative and Innovation of the State Higher School of Vocational Education in Zamość. Creating the Center enables the School to penetrate the local society and build a net of cooperation with various organizations. It also enables to increase chances for realization of various innovative projects.

Authorities of the School do their best to ensure education on a high level employing recognized both in Poland and abroad scientific-didactic personnel as well as coming into cooperation with big scientific centers. At present the school holds agreements with:

 Besides, the School cooperates with John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Center of Practical Education, Commune and Town Public Library in Zamość ( at present: Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski Library), Pedagogic Library in Zamość and Union of Poles of the city of Kiev.
 
The mission of PWSZ in Zamość is offering education on a high level in the form of knowledge and skills, which are both given to our students for their future life. PWSZ in Zamość is, first of all, a regional university. Locating the school in a very close distance from the student’s family home, definitely increases their access to studies. Educating students in PWSZ in Zamość also influences the change of commonly noticed situation when gifted young people finish their education on the Secondary School level.
 
Since January 2009 the School has been realizing the project: “We educate modern. We act locally. Enhancing the didactic potential of the State Higher School of Vocational Education” co-financed by the European Union in the range of the European Social Fund. The projects assumes realization of such tasks as:
 
* Enhancing students’ substantial and labor competence
  • optional classes of mathematics and physics for students studying mechanics and structure of machines as well as mathematics
  • vocational practice and training
  • Increasing participation of entrepreneurs in the didactic process
  • organizing monthly meetings with employers
  • development of activity of the Office of Career and Students’ Practice. Organizing seminars for students about moving around the job market, organizing trainings in the range of preparing application documents, techniques of seeking a job, organizing job fairs. Creating an informative point with the module of vocational counseling for students
* Reinforcing the competence of didactic staff in the range of modern didactic tools. Implementation of the distance learning platform.
 
* Constant education in technical fields. Organizing and running postgraduate studies.
 

 Another attractive project of the year 2009, not only for the State Higher Vocational School in Zamość, but also for the entire Zamość region is "Adapting laboratory facilities and Research Center and Technology Transfer (CeBiTT) of the State Higher Vocational School in Zamość. The project aims to support development and innovation of business in Zamość and development of research potential of PWSZ, and transform it into the local research center – in the technical sciences and science. There is planned the construction of specialized laboratories: the Laboratory of Renewable Energy, the Laboratory of Mechanics, the Laboratory of Applied Mathematics and Optimization of Processes. Completion of the laboratories is planned for December 2010.
